Growing up in Middletown, I always knew I wanted to be an orthodontist. My grandfather opened a dental practice in Glen Ridge in 1931. My father, Gary Cuozzo (yes, that Gary Cuozzo - retired NFL quarterback from the Vikings, Saints, Colts and Cardinals) and my uncle were both orthodontists.
My aunt is a dental hygienist who married a dentist and my sister married a dentist, as well.
Dentistry, specifically orthodontics, has always been my calling. Growing up, we always talked about it. I chose orthodontics because my father had two offices (opened in 1972) and following in his footsteps gave me the opportunity to work with him. Plus, I really like to work with my hands and fix things. Orthodontics is about the movement of teeth; I find it to be a very mechanical craft.
My wife and I moved to Little Silver in 1997 and I joined my father’s practice that year. Twenty years later, I could not feel more blessed about the choices I’ve made. We are raising our four children in this wonderful town. When I’m not working or spending time with my family, I like to give back to the community. I’ve been a volunteer firefighter in Little Silver for 20 years. When my dad retired from his practice in 2002, I was happy to take over business in both locations in Sea Girt and Lincroft.
The most satisfying thing for me is when a patient finishes treatment and I can see how their beautiful smile has made them more confident and self-assured. A smile changes everything. When someone smiles at you, it opens doors and it makes people feel comfortable around you. Having a smile you are proud of can, and does, change your life.
